In the state of Arizona the Department of Education mandates that all coaches be First aid and CPR certified.
Pre-service Requirement: The Arizona Athletic Coaching Certificate 7-12 (2005) and State Board of Education Administrative Code R7-2-612 (2003) requires valid certification in first aid and CPR; the completion of 15 semester hours including 3 semester hours in the methods of coaching, anatomy and physiology, sports psychology, adolescent psychology, and the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries; 250 clock hours of verified coaching experience in the sport to be coached; and a valid fingerprint clearance card.
Professional Development: For renewal of an athletic coaching certificate, the Arizona Athletic Coaching Certificate 7-12 requires the completion of 60 clock hours in a professional development program and valid verification of first aid and CPR.
