The bill that they are trying to pass would make CPR a requirement for both new teachers to get their teaching certification, but also for all other teachers upon recertification.
Currently, CPR courses are required for coaches in New York state, but not for teachers, according to the New York State Education Department.
The bill was introduced by New York State Assemblyman Dennis Gabryszak. Schools must have AED equipment on site at each instructional school facility, as well, to ensure ready and appropriate access for use during emergencies.
